  1. Nah, been there, done that.
The weather here is so much nicer than in Montreal, unless you are really into parkas, restaurants are smoke-free, taxes are bad enough but nothing like Canada’s, medical care is excellent with no long waits for care (our wonderful family physician left Canada for the land of opportunity), and we don’t have the French separatists.
You do have half of Niagara Falls, but we have all of the Grand Canyon, the world’s most beautiful place to hike and enjoy the planet. Sitting on the rim is good too.
    Eh?

  2. Fair enough – especially now that we don’t even have hockey!
I’ll be thinking of the Grand Canyon (or more specifically, of the warm weather) this winter – I’ve already had to drive home in the first snow of the season. Granted, it was that awful wet snow that happens when the temperature is hovering at freezing, but it was definitely white and slippery and depressing.
BTW, in case you’re wondering, it hasn’t arrived yet. I left the tracking number at work, but I do know it’s somewhere on the island of Montreal. So far, Dr. T has managed to talk me out of roaming the streets, looking for Fedex trucks to ransack. I’ll keep you posted!

I know that is the conventional wisdom, and the city of Niagara Falls (Canada) is pretty, especially compared to the depressing city of Niagara Falls (USA), but for a real appreciation of the falls you can’t beat the views and strolls around Goat Island on the US side.
On the other hand, everything along the Canadian side of the Niagara River is pretty, and the restaurants in Niagara-On-The-Lake are so nice. Lovely drive all along there. Now I’m drooling about our next vacation.
The Grand Canyon is why we moved to Arizona. I love to hike to the bottom; coming back up is a different story. The Grand Canyon is the most sublime spectacle on the face of the earth. The rooms on the rim are basic, but a herd of deer lives on the lawn, and the rim is maybe ten seconds away. The bad part is the restaurants are mediocre.
When everyone gathers on the rim for sunset it is so quiet you can actually hear the swallows flying past.
The California condors roost right under the rim. Condors have a great life, basically hanging around waiting for something to die.

  4. And when your insurance runs out due to chronic, prolonged illness, you get to sell the house to pay the bills, and then you get to die.
