recent updates and changes
The Montrealer list continues to expand – so I’ve chunked it into an extended entry. Additions to the list are always welcome!
I’ve also updated the entry on the “I’m Julie” ad. Google has revealed that many bloggers and other online writers have responded to the ad – and the Gazoo, among others, has now pulled the ad.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
Les filles du Roi were not royally-commissioned whores. Some were sexually-active, but most were either poor or orphaned.
Perhaps it’s a matter of semantics – I’m not saying these women were lining up to board the ships bound for the “new world.” In fact, I think we’re saying close to the same thing – that these were desperate women, whose desperation was exploited by the crown. If they had remained in France, no doubt many of them – even if they weren’t there already – would have turned to prostitution as a way of life.
I really think it wasnt there fault. They were exploited by the king. Many were forced over to procreate to populate the province of Quebec.
In awe of that anwesr! Really cool!
